I’m really excited to be able to share with you something I’ve been working on since the beginning of the year. Many of you will have heard me talk about Malawi Underprivileged Mother’s (MUMs) and it’s founder Linda McDonald (more recently she became Linda McDonald OBE!). In fact if you read last month’s update you will know I was in Malawi with Linda. Over the last 10 years Linda has been feeding and educating children aged 2-5 years old in 3 villages, Malili, Kuthanga and Makanga as well as supporting a maternity clinic in Area 23. However Linda decided last year that after 10 years of working in Malawi it was time for her to wind down MUMs as a charity, and her goal was to ensure that the feeding and education programme would continue.

So you have probably guessed where this is going. Yes! Smalls will be taking over the education programme!!

The date is still to be finalised, but we are working to September for a handover. I’m not quite sure how I went to Malawi with 31 children and came back with another 348! This is a huge step for Smalls and I’m delighted that Linda McDonald OBE will be joining my Board of trustees. I’ve known Linda for 3 years and regularly use her as a sounding board so I couldn’t be happier that she has agreed to become a Smalls trustee given her wealth of experience of working in Africa and more specifically working in the 3 villages where she set up the education programme.

The Scottish charity Mary’s Meals have taken on the feeding programme and will be delivering the phala (porridge) for all the children.
