There was an underwear deluge in a wet and windy Brighton earlier this year, with literally hundreds of pants and bras collected by women members of the trade union, UNISON at their annual conference.

Unison

It all started back in 2014 at a meeting of UNISON’s national women’s committee when Jane Gebbie, an assistant branch secretary and vice chair in Cymru Wales, called on her trade union to raise awareness of the work of the Smalls for All at the annual conference.

“I heard about the charity in a discussion with my Mum,” says Jane. “She’s always taken great interest in international women’s issues and how such a simple action such as providing a pair of knickers could protect more vulnerable women and girls abroad.”

The need is basic and the way to help is simple. No surprise then, that the collection was really popular with our members, keen to do their bit to support women and children in Africa with such a crucial necessity. The generosity of donations coming from delegates at the women’s conference and members in Wales has been astounding.

UNISON is the UK’s leading public service trade union for women. UNISON women campaign for equality in the workplace and for improvements to women’s rights in the workplace and in the wider community. We are really proud to be have been able to support Smalls for All.
